About the causeInter IIT Sports Meet is our annual sports event. IIT Madras has secured its own legendary position by grabbing the General Championship (GC) 22 times and Women’s GC 3 times (consecutively) and stands No.1 unbeaten by any other IIT till date.
Every Year IIT Madras's hockey team plays a dominant role in securing the points and in giving tough competition to other IITs. The hockey team has a legacy of winning gold consecutively for 5 years (2009-2013) and bagging silver in 2014 and 2017. But in recent years the performance level of the team has come down compared to the other IITs.
Every year students' participation in hockey is very impressive but the only bottleneck part is “the fund generated by Gymkhana” for the Hockey gear is not sufficient for us during the Inter IIT Sports Meet. IIT Madras gymkhana facilitates very less hockey equipment compared to the other IITs. Nowadays, hockey players and the coaching staff prefer long-lasting good “COMPOSITE HOCKEY STICKS” and a few good quality equipments like kettlebells, dumbbells, etc. The fitness equipment will help our rigorous practice sessions and enable us to give our extreme performance during the play.
IIT Madras Gymkhana is unable to provide any additional support other than the basic amount of ₹ 44,800 /- (₹ 2800 per head). By excluding the ₹ 44,800 /-, we are in a deficit of ₹ 1,15,240 /- the hockey team kindly requests the Alumni community of IIT Madras to help in bringing back the glory to IIT Madras by sponsoring the institute hockey team.
