Financial support for PhD scholars with Disability

Description

About the cause

Ms. Preethi Srinivasan joined IIT (Madras) as a Full-Time Ph.D. scholar in December 2018 after duly clearing a written examination as well as an oral interview.

Due to a freak accident, when she was 18 years old, she had been paralyzed below the neck leaving her as a quadriplegic with 90% disability. Due to sheer determination she has registered for a Ph.D. program in IIT Madras.

She is being Guided by Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan of R2D2 Lab (Mechanical Engineering) and Dr. Hemachandran Karah(Humanities Dept)

Her stipend as a Ph.D. scholar is getting delayed due to process issues.

She is the only earning member in her family. Her mother is 66 years old and has been her primary caregiver for the last 20 years. She also supports her grandmother who is 91 years old. The delays in getting the stipend has left her stranded financially.

She may be eligible for the “Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship for the Disabled”, but applications to all the government scholarship schemes are open only between September and November. If she is chosen, it might still take at least a few more months for the scholarship to take effect.

She needs financial support for at least one year, i.e Rs. 3.00 Lakhs only.

We request Alumni to contribute and support Ms. Preethi Srinivasan and enable her to pursue her Ph.D. program.
