Description

• A team of 40 motivated students of IIT Madras representing the institute at the world renowned Formula Student competitions held across the world at Formula One circuits.
• Design and manufacture a Formula style single seater racecar from scratch every year to compete in the German and Indian editions of the competitions.
• Place 3rd out of 60 teams in the recently held Formula Student India 2016 while bagging 1st in fuel efficiency and having the 2nd fastest car on track.
• Was the first Indian team to build a Formula Student car in under 200 kgs.
• Compete at a budget around 60% that of nearest rivals, regularly punching above its weight, the youngest team in the top 5 at Formula Student India 2016.

• The money will be used to implement the radical design changes made for the latest challenge RFR-17. These includes extensive usage of lightweight carbon fiber composites and advanced manufacturing techniques like 3D printing for reduction of the overall mass of the vehicle. A large portion of the team's budget is also utilized in the transport and logistics of the car for attending competitions in Germany and across India. The increased funding would also help in further testing and understanding of the car's behavior to tune it to perform at its best in the competitions.
