Description
To fund:
• Adding books written by IITM alumni and faculty members and books that extend outside IIT Madras and Chennai history or authorship to include a universal library would encourage more people to utilise the reading area.
• Furniture including bookshelves, a table and sofas - This will create a sophisticated and cosy reading area that shows the potential of reading and IIT Madras to visitors. It will present well compared to the current arrangement.
• Reading workshops or a Book Club, events and competitions. These events will be engaging and rewarding to the students. These could be in the form of slam poetry, spoken word poetry or writing exercises and events that would promote renewed and constant engagement between the students, the Heritage Centre and IIT Madras.
• An art wall (and prizes for winning artists) that can accompany the reading area sometime in the future. Art competitions related to the heritage of IITM and Chennai will persuade more students to engage with the Heritage Centre and IITM.
What IITM gets out of it:
• A better image of even one corner of the Heritage Centre shows students and people visiting the Centre that at IITM, things only keep improving. It will encourage the student body to interact with the history of their institute and also present well to visitors who will see students engrossed in the past, present and future of IIT Madras.
What the donor can receive in return:
• The donor’s name can be part of the title of the reading area/Reading Room.
• The prizes for competitions related to the reading area can have the donor’s name.
