The IIT Madras Sharks Aquatics Team has long been a beacon of excellence, representing ourinstitution with pride and determination. Over the years, our team has shown remarkable resilience and dedication, achieving unprecedented success by yet again winning the Waterpolo Championship and aiding the sports contingent in clinching the overall general championship after 12 years. This remarkable feat highlights our potential to ascend to greater heights and continue the legacy of the Madras Sharks. To support this upward trajectory and ensure sustained success, we propose the establishment of an Alumni Fund dedicated to the advancement of the IIT Madras Sharks Aquatics Team.

1. Financial Constraints:

It is imperative to address the pressing issue of financial constraints that have hampered the progress of our aquatics team. With a minimalistic budget approved yearly, our team has been forced to operate within severely limited means. Our primary constraint is the extremely high travel costs. Given that a one day train journey to IIT Indore and back will not only exhaust and hamper our performance, but also require us to miss our quizzes, the contingent hopes to travel by flight.

2. Budgetary Requirements:

The accompanying table outlines the budgetary requirements for the IIT Madras Sharks Aquatics Team to thrive and compete at the highest level. A budget of approximately 2.2 lakh is necessary to accommodate the travel costs. With adequate funding, we can avoid falling short of our potential and jeopardising our chances of achieving a stellar performance yet again.

3. Recent Achievements:

The Madras Sharks have a long established history of wins that have most recently culminated in the achievement of the Waterpolo Championship 2023 and subsequently the historic General Championship win after 12 years. Other notable victories include the Men's Championship win in 2022 and 2019, the Waterpolo Championship win in 2022, Women's Runner Up win in 2022 and Women's Championship win in 2019.

By addressing the pressing issue of financial constraints, leveraging our achievements, and fostering a culture of accountability, we can continue to create a legacy of excellence that transcends generations. We call upon our esteemed alumni to join us in this noble endeavour, as together, we strive to realise the full potential of our beloved aquatics team and uphold the proud tradition of IIT Madras Sharks Aquatics.
