About the cause
Dr. O. Prabhakar is one of the pioneering Professors of the IIT Madras Department of Metallurgy which he joined in 1968. He is also one of the department’s earliest alumni, having obtained his B.Tech in 1965, part of just the second batch of students to graduate from IITM. He also obtained his Ph.D. in Metallurgy in 1974 from IITM after an ME in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His primary areas of interest are nondestructive evaluation and metal casting.
He served as the Head of the Department for three years from 1987 to 1990. He retired from IIT Madras in 1998 after 30 years of experience gained in the area of his passion: Non-Destructive Testing. He later also taught at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from 1998 to 2004. He was a popular lecturer and a great human being whom all his students remember fondly.
He lives in Chennai and is a valued advisor for many decades to the TVS group ‘s M/S Sundaram Brake Lining in Chennai as well as a consultant to many steel foundries.
Prof. O.Prabhakar's faculty fellow is expected to actively work in areas like Materials engineering, Non-Destructive Testing, Metal casting, and other related areas.
