Merit-cum-Means Scholarship 2024 aims to remove “tuition fee” as a roadblock to academic excellence for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

In 2022-23, IIT Madras celebrated a significant milestone by supporting 100 % of the students ( with parental incomes between Rs 1-5 Lakhs) who applied for scholarships. The Alumni Community’s support allowed us to cover all their academic expenses, giving them the freedom to dream of a brighter future. 

What does this scholarship entail?

The current tuition fee for a BTech student is Rs 2 Lakhs per year. For the students with parental income between Rs 1-5LPA, the revised government Merit-cum-Means scholarship covers 2/3rd of the current tuition fee (i.e. 1.33 lakhs). This still leaves a sum of Rs 70,000/- to be borne by the student. 

The Merit-cum-Means scholarship 2024 aims to raise this amount for every student in need through our alumni community.

Eligibility/Renewal Criteria

• * Parental income between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakhs per annum.
• * Currently pursuing B. Tech / Dual Degree.
• * Up to four (4) years of tuition assistance will be covered.
