The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act was enacted in the year 2016. The objective of the RPwD Act is to ensure that all persons with disabilities can lead their lives with dignity, without discrimination and with equal opportunities. The Act lays down specific provisions to uphold such rights. It incorporates the rights of persons with disabilities covered under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), to which India is a signatory.

Our Vision

IIT Madras’ Inclusive Education initiative seeks to nurture students with disabilities (SwD) such that they become professionally competent and personally independent, by enabling reasonable participation in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in the IITM campus.

For the students with any kind of disability, IE team makes every effort to assist them with a device, a software, any advice as well as continuous guidance to make learning at ease just as for others.
There are assistive devices that can be made available and also various forms of training to faculty as well as students to make both teaching and learning most convenient.
