India’s Oldest and Most Prestigious Collegiate Sports Event

First held in 1961, the Inter IIT Sports Meet is the country’s longest-running intercollegiate sporting tradition. It brings together athletes from all 23 IITs, symbolizing excellence, camaraderie, and sporting spirit. Over the decades, the Meet has grown into a national-level spectacle, inspiring generations of students with its legacy of determination and teamwork.

IIT Madras: A Legacy of Champions

IIT Madras has proudly hosted the Meet multiple times – in 1964, 1970, 1977, 1988, and 2014. The 1970 edition was historic, when IIT Madras both hosted and won the General Championship, starting an unmatched streak of eleven consecutive titles.

With 24 Overall Championship titles out of 57, IIT Madras is the most successful contingent in Inter IIT history.

2025: The Grand Return

In 2025, IIT Madras hosts both the:

39th Inter IIT Aquatics Meet (Sep 30 – Oct 5, 2025)
58th Inter IIT Sports Meet (Dec 14 – 21, 2025)

The events will feature:

Aquatics Meet: Swimming (Men & Women) and Water Polo (Men)
Main Meet: Badminton, Basketball, Squash, and Table Tennis (Men & Women)

Both meets will include a Grand Opening Ceremony, Gala Dinner, and Closing Ceremony with distinguished guests.
