Mr. AVISHEK BHATTACHARJEE graduated from the Deptt. Of CS&E, IIT Madras, in March 2021. The title of his MS thesis is “Face Recognition through Generation using Deep Learning Techniques”, which was admired outstandingly by both the reviewers.
Unfortunately for all of us (friends, relatives, teachers, and other acquaintances) he contracted the Coronavirus, was hospitalized for several weeks, and could not recover from it. He left us for his heavenly abode at the end of April 2021. Mr. Avishek was a meritorious scholar, extremely helpful, cooperative, cordial, and has made innumerable friends during his stay (3 yrs) at IIT Madras. His batchmates, co-workers, friends, teachers, and guide recollect his pleasing personality, technical & academic ability, joyous and infectious smile. They all miss him so dearly and are extremely saddened by the untimely demise of such a scholar who promised to deliver so much more. May his soul rest in peace.
A set of his very close co-workers have initiated a proposal to institute a meritorious PG-level Research award, in the memory of Mr. Avishek Bhattacharjee. More than 20 such alumni of Deptt. of CS&E, IIT Madras, including his guide have vouched for such an endowment fund. The minimum requirement for the grant of such an award is INR 5.0 Lakhs, as per the norms for IIT Madras. The group has been able to generate close to INR 3.0 Lakhs till date.
We desire to make an appeal to the alumni and academic community of IIT Madras to help us with your graceful contribution of any amount to realize this. We are confident that your contributions will help us to keep the memory of Avi (as he was fondly called in Lab./Deptt) forever in IIT Madras.
