Description
IIT Madras has opened its first offshore campus in Zanzibar. Through this pioneering effort, IIT Madras will provide its world-class education to the larger African region through the Zanzibar campus. The campus is about 15 Kms from the main city and the students have a slightly restricted access to the amenities in the city. The transit buildings are situated in a 4.5 acre campus with plans to move to a permanent campus of 250 acres in about 3 years. The current student strength is 45 and it is expected to grow to 150 in the next year. We propose a Gymnasium for the students with a reasonable set of exercise and sports equipment. This will help with the physical and emotional well-being of the student community in the Zanzibar campus.
