Late Prof. Dr. E.G.Ramachandran’s centenary birthday on the 7 th April 2025 was celebrated at IIT Madras in a grand manner with the participation of Prof. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, Dr. B.S.Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, Prof. Sarma, HOD, MME, IIT Madras and others including some family members of EGR, former students, faculties of MME, some members of IIM, Chennai chapter, EGR’s fans and others.
On this occasion, many participants recounted their memorable interactions with EGR during his service at IITM as well as after his retirement. An interim booklet was prepared and circulated amongst the participants.
Some of the EGR’s former students felt that it would be appropriate if EGR’s bust is installed at the entrance of MME department in memory of his services to the MME department during the “CENTENARY BIRTH YEAR 2025-26” of EGR. Dr. B.S.Murty took the initiative and obtained the approval of our Director, IIT Madras, Prof. Kamakoti for the same.
It is proposed to get a bronze bust of EGR locally and a vendor has been identified for making the bronze bust and preparations have started to get the project completed by 1 st week of December 2025.
During this year, the Golden Jubilee reunion of 1975 batch alumni and Ruby Reunion of 1985 alumni will likely be arranged by IITMAA in the last week of December 2025 (the exact program will be decided by IITMAA shortly).
On this occasion, it is also proposed to complete the balance work on the “BOOK ON EGR” and release it along with the unveiling of EGR’s bust by our respected Director, IIT Madras.
The budget estimates for these two projects (BUST and the BOOK) will be around Rs.5 to 6 lakhs which is proposed to be raised by voluntary contribution of MME alumni.
