The Days That Were
Time flies, doesn’t it? We thrive in a world where we’re busy dreaming, chasing, and navigating along the human rollercoaster. It often feels like an infinite cycle. While we put our heart and soul into what we do, loving the journey that we’ve embarked on, there may be moments, and even tides that may need us to rewind, pause, and reset- not only because the world operates like a mirage, but also because we need to keep pushing to find means and meaning.
Yet, life is about living and reliving. Specifically focusing on the latter, no emotion, no energy, and no experience can compare to the solid friendships and memories arising from our educational days – in this context, the times that we spent at IIT Madras. So, while we aim for the stars and build brick by brick, let’s spend a minute on nostalgia, slip into the past, and with it – embrace simpler times, arming ourselves with our reveries. Presenting to you, a poem to take you back in time – The Days That Were.
Freshly mown grass, and roads – never ending,
Circles, and classrooms, careers – ascending,
People in transit, innovations in feature,
Lessons and laughter in lush, green nature.
Timelines and deadlines, festivals, and fests,
Huddles of students for tasks and tests,
Notes to the rescue - at times – filled with doodles,
A life fueled by ambition (and “midnight instant noodles”).
To think that we can no longer live the life that was,
The beauty of student life, a window to rewind and pause,
Spotting the fauna, cycling in the moonlight,
Finding our tribe – the rook, the bishop, and the knight.
And when we’re adorned with wrinkles, the coffee going cold,
The graduation photo in our hands – with a story to behold,
No matter how far we go – to dream, to soar, to earn,
To college, to reminisce – won’t we always return?
To college, to reminisce – we will always return.
