Students at IIT Madras, under the guidance of faculty, have been working on a satellite to be launched soon by ISRO. This satellite project has been progressing well for the past few years, thanks to generous contributions from Dr. Krishna Chivukula, a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras.Current Status of the Satellite Project:
The full integration of all the subsystems of the satellite has been completed, and they are receiving full power from the satellites’ power system. This “Integration Model” is an important milestone in the completion of the work. The next stage is to build a version of the flight model called “Qualification Model”. After successful completion of the tests, the final “Flight Model” will be built. Launch of the satellite will soon follow.Ground Station:
The ground station is being built to track the satellite, and to receive the signals from the satellite in orbit. This station is to be located in the Electrical Sciences Block on the IIT Madras campus. It will be equipped with an antenna, a transceiver, an Earth station room, computers and other support facilities.Funding Proposal:
The construction and commissioning cost of the Ground Station together with costs of staffing, maintenance, additional equipment and overall management over a period 5 years is expected to be about ` 45 lakhs (USD 67,200).
We seek sponsorship for this amount and are offering naming rights to the sponsor. The Ground Station may be named as per the donor’s desire with Institute approval.
