About the cause

Dr. Ravindra Gettu is currently Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT
Madras, and Dean, Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research, IIT Madras. He obtained
the degree of B.E in Civil Engineering (Honours) in 1984 from University of Madras (India),
M.S in the same field from Marquette University (USA), in 1986. He earned his Ph.D. in
Structural Engineering, from Northwestern University (USA), in 1992.

Dr. Gettu joined as a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras in 2004.
He is highly passionate about teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He
has served as the Chairman, Engineering Unit during the crucial period when Institute
infrastructure was being transforming to meet the increase in student and faculty strength.
After serving as the first-ever Associate Dean, he took over in March 2018 as the Dean for
Consultancy and Sponsored Research Projects. The IC&;SR Centre manages the funds for
research and consultancy, intellectual property and industry outreach for the Institute.

He is part of the strongest construction materials research group in the country, and has
guided several Ph.D and Masters students. He has co-authored more than 450 journal and
conference papers, and has edited several conference proceedings. He has been recognized
at the national and international levels for outstanding contributions to the science and
technology of cement-based composites, including concrete, through applied research,
technology demonstration and teaching; for enabling collaboration among researchers and
industry in the national and international levels; and for exemplary leadership in the
implementation of new materials and technologies in construction. In September 2018, he
will become President of RILEM, The International Union of Laboratories and Experts in
Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (Paris, France), the first Asian to do so in its
75-year history.

We request all alumni and collaborators who have interacted with Prof. Ravindra Gettu to
sponsor the Institute Professorship Chair that he occupies. An Institute Chair requires an
Endowment of Rs 65 lakhs ($ 100K), and the annual returns from the principal will be used
to sustain the Chair.
